D recently received a summer internship offer in Pisa, Italy, but she is having trouble finding accommodations at this late date. She needs a room from June 7 through the end of August. Any ideas?

I cannot help you, but please tell her to really research the area she choses. We were in Italy last summer and Pisa was the only area I felt uncomfortable in. We were all over Rome, Assisi and never once felt unsafe. We all felt uncomfy in Pisa…normally I can be the worry-wort, but none of us felt good about that city. Our reservations got lost, so we ended up more in an area like “China town.” Not the greatest area.

If she doesnt mind a 30 minute bus ride or a 25 minute train ride, she can even check out the much more pleasant Lucca.

Thanks for the heads up, jmmmom. D is determined to accept the internship in Pisa if she can find a place to live, so I’ll warn her about avoiding certain areas of the city.

Lucca looks wonderful, musicamusica, but do you know if any college students live there? D would really like to live in an area with other young people around. She doesn’t mind a 30-minute train ride, though.

D e-mailed the U of Pisa to ask for leads on housing, but she hasn’t heard back yet. I guess her next step is to contact a realtor. She had hoped to avoid using a realtor because it’s so expensive and her funds are limited as a recent college graduate.
