Summer Activities Besides University Programs?

Hey all, so I was talking to my friend a couple of days ago about summer activities that stand out to college admissions people. She is currently planning to participate in a state school summer program she was accepted to. I couldn’t help but wonder what I should be doing under my circumstances. I was planning to attended a prestigious program hosted by my local community college for high school students but since my brother is planning to attend college in the fall we have to do a lot of road trips and orientation at his campus. My mom recently lost her job and my dad is unfortunately not in a good financial place right now. If I can’t do a summer program at a top university, what should I be doing this summer? I’m a rising junior so I’m preparing for the PSAT and doing AP summer homework. In addition I am also learning a new language and writing poetry for the upcoming Scholastic Awards. I just turned 16, but jobs in my area are mainly 18+. What summer activities can I do that aren’t university programs but will still look good for admissions?

Also, I’m planning on applying for the Questbridge College Prep Scholars Program this coming year and I would like to know if there are other programs for juniors that provide scholarships or awards.

Stats if anyone cares

GPA (unweighted, my school only let’s juniors and seniors do AP and honors classes): 3.94
Rank: 2/20
Scores: Planning to take both SAT and ACT this upcoming year, scored a 1230 on PSAT in Sophomore year (want to try to make National Merit in junior year)
Extracurriculars: National Honor Society Vice President as a sophomore->President in junior year, founder and president of debate club, altar server at church, student journalist at online magazine, elementary/middle school tutor, Track and Field, currently in the process of starting a charity program for girls at local women’s shelter, Girl Up Community leader
Awards: nothing EXTREMELY major but I got a $2,500 scholarship for community service
State: Washington, small private Christian school in suburb, Nigerian American female

A summer job!

Agee…a job would be valued by college admissions officers.

@happy1 @momofsenior1 what kinds of jobs should I look for? I tried getting one at a fast food place and I didn’t meet the age requirement. Are jobs like babysitting and dogwalking okay?

Anything is fine!
