Summer Activity Ideas?

It’s almost summertime, and I’m looking for things to do. The window for camps and internships has already closed, and I didn’t get into the ones I applied to, so I’m now in trying to figure out other options.

I’ll be a senior next year, so I’ll work on college apps, of course, and enjoy my leisure time, but what else could I do? Should I keep trying for internships, just reaching out? It’s hard to find engineering internships (my hopeful major) for high schoolers. Maybe pursue little projects, like Raspberry Pi sets or something?

Thanks for any advice.

Sorry, I realize this is in entirely the wrong forum, but I’m not sure how to move it.

summer part time job? It doesn’t need to have anything to do with a future major? Volunteer work?

I was in the same boat. I applied to internships and programs REALLY late (like beginning of March) and thought my summer would be wasted. Don’t give up looking at local universities or even on Google for internships pertaining to your major. Luckily, I found something to do! If all else fails, get a job or volunteer. Good luck to you.

I went through the same thing! I guess if you look hard enough you could find smaller research internships…if you decide to Google something, I would advise googling something like “rolling admissions” or programs without a final deadline.

There are some programs that have rolling admissions–you could probably try looking into those. I’d also second the get a summer job idea. I think you could also try reaching out to professors for research opportunities.

Get a part time job, preferably one you can keep next year.

You’ll be surprised to find how much money you’ll go through Senior year, between prom and the million other activities. Then you’ll be stunned to find out how much you’ll want for your freshman year!

Job, committed volunteering, study.
You could do all 3.

Get a job. Especially if you have not ever had a job. It is important to learn about working life in a low risk way. Also you will be able to get a recommendation. You will also make money!!

Ok, great, I volunteer at the library year-round, but forgot to mention it. Besides that, a job does seem like the best route to go - not sure why I didn’t consider that sooner. Thanks for all the advice!
