Summer after First Year as a Computer Science Major

I'm about to finish my first year of college as double major in computer science and criminology. Although I'm a first-year student, I'll be entering next fall as junior status (AP credits + a program/fellowship at my school whereby I am exempt from general education requirements, so dove right into my majors and degree program requirements this year). I'm already about 1/3rd of the way through the requirements for both of my majors, so have significant exposure to the courses and content in my fields.

I'd like to get an internship or some sort of opportunity this summer but I'm in a weird position in that I don't have the necessary skills for a programming-type job, but I'm also not completely unexposed. I basically want anything that immerses me and gets me experience, but I'm not sure what kind of places/things I should be seeking out in my hometown. It can be a small company, a big company, basically I want anything that can get me experience and at least show me what I would need to know. Any suggestions as to where to look would be appreciated.

Note that I'm not looking for programs like Google's BOLD program for freshman or the like, where you travel for a program in your field. I don't want to apply to something where it's a "competition." I just want some field experience.

Thanks!

I can’t speak for criminology, but for your CS major you have other options if you can’t seem to find an internship yet.

Contributing to an open source project is a great thing to add to your resume. Find something that interests you in a language you are comfortable in.

Also, give making a dynamic webpage a shot if you have free time over the summer if you don’t get an internship. HTML, CSS, Javascript are becoming quite the popular skills in the software engineering world. It also gives you exposure to building a webserver on the backend you may not fully get in school.
