Hey everyone,
I am currently in my Freshman year of High school and want to be involved over this summer. I am aiming for top level universities in the future and would like to make the most of my summers. It is a little late to get into a program now, so would it be a good idea to take some classes at a Community College? I'm not talking standard classes, but maybe a Business class (because I am interested in business)

Is this a good idea? Any other recommendations for my first high school summer?
I am also possibly starting a camp for underprivileged children in a school in my city with my brother, but this would only be a week or two.

Volunteer in something you actually care about as much as possible.

Do something you love (that would be reasonable for a CV). Also have a little fun, HS summers are good times!!!

All I did for my summer after Freshman year was take World history and football summer training and hell week. I realized that I do a lot better in accelerated classes than going the regular tempo…

I wouldn’t recommend taking CC classes juuuust yet…I mean you’re only a freshie. Give yourself another year or two before taking on a college class, even if it’s CC.

TYIL has the best advice, imo. Do what you love! You like business? Talk to some business owners to see if you can intern. Heck, start a small summer business. I don’t know much about your camp idea, so I can’t really judge that, but if you plan it a lot it could work out…

He also said to have fun, which is KEY. So many kids get lost in community service, summer programs, and summer classes that they forget their childhood. Don’t lose sight of the fact that A) You’re in your mid-teens; act like it sometimes! B) There’s more to life than getting into college. C) You might discover some wonderful things about people in down time, either with your family or your friends.
