What do pre-meds typically do during this period? Research? Clinical work? Chill? Responses of any kind are appreciated. :)

Out of the pre-meds that I personally know, some did summer school, some did research, one worked as a nursing assistant, one did overseas service work and one interned in a pathology lab.

if ur a premed, chilling is just out of the question

summer after freshman year: I knocked out the physics prerequisite at a local state university and did clinical rotations at a local hospital
summer after sophomore year: I did clinical research at a medical school
summer after junior year: worked at a hospital in zambia for 2 months

make the most of each summer, something to do with medicine

i might take orgo2 or bio 2 in the summer, just so i don't have to take three weeders at one time.

I'm going to get a few courses out of the way, but hopefully Gen Eds and lower major classes, to get them out of the way. also, I'll do something shadowy/volunteer related :)

I was a counselor at space camp. seriously. Here is where I was employed: http://www.cosmo.org/camps/fatp1.php

Best summer ever. And an amazing conversation starter. (and because I'm pretty sure about the whole pediatrics thing, this is just another beneficial experience)

The point is you should do SOMETHING. It doesn't necessarily have to be pre-med related, but you should be able to talk about it. This is where my "it's all in how you spin it" argument gains traction. If you can say that whatever you did help prepared you for being a better doctor or a better person then it doesn't matter what it was (for 99% of what you could possibly do).

Thanks for all your responses. I greatly appreciate them.
