summer AP classes?

I want to take AP Cal AB for a gpa boost over the summer but I don't know of any virtual schools for my state. Does it have to be from my state or can it be from another one? Also, how long does a summer class usually take? Does it take all summer or just 5-6 weeks? Lastly, if I want to take 2 classes, what would be a relatively easy AP class I could take along with Cal AB? Thanks!

Check with your GC. Florida Virtual School is a good option but they charge for OOS students

Make sure your school accepts outside credits; many don’t.

The problem with summer AP classes is you’ll have to wait until may to take the exam anyways, so there really isn’t much point to taking one over the summer.

^Yeah. It wouldn’t be good, because you may forget most of the material by May.

I don’t think you need AP exam for class GPA.

If the OP is taking AB over the summer, I’m assuming they would take BC during the school year :slight_smile: So then he/she wouldn’t even be able to take the AB exam (if the OP takes the BC exam).

Some of the easiest APs are AP Human Geography, AP Psychology, and AP Environmental Science, and they are all offered on FLVS :)

@LosingCrayon‌ nice catch!

If you are going to take BC during the school year, taking AB over the summer is fine. However, I wouldn’t recommend taking another AP over the summer. Usually you don’t want to take on more than one class in a summer session because the pace will be very fast.

You have to take the AP exam to get the GPA boost if you’re going the FLVS route. Also, It’s not difficult to get a good score on an AP exam even if you took the class over the summer. With 3-4 weeks of review it will come back and you should be good to go. I wouldn’t recommend leaving AP chem for 8 months but any humanities and Calc AB are pretty easy to review once the information is learned.

P.S. you have to take the AP exam otherwise it will count as an honors weighted class.

Thanks for all the replies! Ya, I am planning on taking BC next year (depending if my school offers it) so I’ll still be able to take the calculus AP test. At my school, AP and honors classes are weighted the same so it shouldn’t be a problem. Thanks again!
