Summer Assignments

Oh, I also have to read a book by Cory Doctorow. I think it is called “Little Brother”.

Also, I read one of his books, years ago, called “For The Win” and I loved it, so I was stunned to see his work again!

AP English Lang and Comp-Read Chocolat and two books from the approved list, analyze a synthesis essay, and write a blog post for our research paper.

AP Bio-30 short answers, 5 short essays, a paper on arctic wolves, and a photo powerpoint of various ecological terms.

Spanish IV-short packet as a review of Spanish III grammar.

AP US History-60 terms, a DBQ, and a chart detailing the Gilded Age.

History is the killer.

^Lol, I have no idea what the Gilded Age is…

Also, why artic wolves for AP Bio?

@Apollo11 I honestly couldn’t tell you, they randomly gave us an article on arctic wolves and told us to write a paper on it. Pretty bizarre to be honest hahaha

^Sounds crazy!

However, I recommend reading Campbell and Reece, 7th or 8th edition.

That is the AP Textbook, and the 7th and 8th edition are like 10 bucks on Amazon.

It is the most helpful AP Bio resource ever. Even the US Bio Olympiad kids use that book

^Woah, why are they only ten bucks…

The school actually issues Campbell 7th Edition luckily enough! Thank you though

I have to grow a freaking plant for AP Bio, in addition to writing a bunch of stupid essays (only AP bio teacher at my school is one of those teachers who believes that their class is the most important and that no other class matters). For AP Stats we have to teach ourselves the first couple chapters using the PDFs on our teacher’s website. For AP Lit we have to read Catch 22. -______________-

AP Lit: Chose a book, write character analysis and a basic overview with specific points like genre, theme etc. Analyze text excerpts and answer a bunch of questions (they’re so philosophical I doubted whether I had signed up for the right class).

AP Stats: Write definitions for a given vocab list, take notes from 2 chapters, do a bunch of problems from the book, take an online quiz, write a autobiographical essay about yourself.

AP Econ/Govt.: None

It was better than last year :)

@surreptitious: There is a 9th edition, so the older editions’ values depreciate quickly, despite the fact that the 9th edition only adds like 5 pages. Also, the 9th edition is like $150.

AP Lang - Read The Scarlet Letter, The Crucible, and 1492; be familiar with 6 other books
AP Calc BC - nothing!
AP Enviro - Read one of 8 books and write a chapter-by-chapter outline; Find 5 articles about environmental effects and write a summary/reflection
APUSH - Do 5 packets; 200 flashcards on important events/topics/people; study US geography (map test first day of school); read and study first 5 chapters of textbook (exam second week of school)

English - Read one novel/play/short story collection at least 150 pages long that is written by an American author (and actually considered “literature”)
Planning on reading something by Vonnegut

APUSH - Write a paper based on a book (and a list of history books is given)… forgot the details of it but eh.

Physics - Review some math concepts that are listed, and I’ll have to take a Readiness Assessment test

IB English - Read Our Town and write an 8-entry summer reading report about it. (pretty cool because my school put on the play and I was in it!)

IB History - Work on my Internal Assessment (this 2000-word essay we have to write)

IB Biology - Do an entire unit of evolution (or ecology, can’t quite remember) by ourselves

^Sounds…fun…

Good Luck everyone, but seriously get of this thread!

Your summer assignments are awaiting!

AP Calc - Bunch of problem sets reviewing pre-calc/trig concepts. Not hard, but there are so many problems that it is a pain

AP English Lit - Read three books, write essays and journal writes for the books (annoying/tedious, but not very hard)

AP Euro - (optional) read some books/watch some movies from a list provided for extra credit

AP Bio - The teacher still has not sent out the assignment

Yearbook - Moderate the Facebook group (only because I am editor)

AP Lit - read Jane Eyre and choice of 1982, Fahrenheit 451 or Frankenstein and answer extensive questions on the books

AP Gov - read some 15 page essay and write an essay on it, and another book and answer questions on it

AP Econ - none

^lol, is 1982 an actual book? Do you mean Orwell’s book, “1984”?

^ Yeah, whatever. I’m obviously not reading that one so I don’t really care, ahah

It’s a really good book, all about government surveillance and Big Brother stuff.

I also liked Fahrenheit 451, so it sounds like there are at least a few good options!

I like Fahrenheit 451 more than 1984. Actually…I didn’t even finish 1984. I skimmed the end.
