Some of my friends are realizing they need to start summer reading/assignments in classes that they attend in the fall. How do you know if you have anything like that in GW courses? I can't imagine the prof. would email you.

ha ha , nah, no assignemnts. as you remember in CI the only “assignment” if you wanted to have brunch with the dean, you needed to read 3 books and write something about it. yeah, right, likw I really was going to do it. Enjoy the last few weeks of a break!

This year, there’s a mandatory book the whole freshman class has to read. It’s called “Hot, Flat, and Crowded” by Thomas Friedman.

collegegirl: I was not aware of it. Sorry. So you read it and then what do you have to do, a paper? just curious

the book is not mandatory…basically the assigment according to the dean was to read hot flat and crowded and write a review into the dean… all for a chance to have lunch with the dean and some “special guests”

…however, there was nothing said about it being mandatory or consequences for not reading it

i did read it tho, wasnt a fan

Pat:“the book is not mandatory…basically the assigment according to the dean was to read hot flat and crowded and write a review into the dean… all for a chance to have lunch with the dean and some”
that is exactly what I meant, I agree with you. Didn’t read though, and we met the Dean later for pizza in our dorms anyway. Don’t think anything is mandatory to read

Some of my friends who are going to state schools actually have mini papers to write before they go, I’m not into that at all. I read the freshman book - it was pretty dry and I don’t know if I will write the review or not. Are there any requirements for the review?

im pretty sure there arent, just basically tell him what you thought of the book and those with the most interesting viewpoints get to have dinner with him to discuss
