Summer at CMU!

Hello everyone! I wanted to start a thread for applicants (and hopefully, later, participants) for the Carnegie Mellon Pre-College Drama Program (MT and straight theatre.)

I sent my application in last tuesday…haven’t heard anything yet, but i know they are busy with college applications.

I figured this way, we could keep up with who’s been accepted, going, etc year and maybe some kids could get to know each other before getting there!

oh its amazing....your going to have yourself a great summer..if you have any questions feel free to ask!

Hi Kayla!!! - It's Erica! :)

I just wanted to second what kaylagurl said. It is AMAZING and you will have the time of your life and meet incredible people. My advice is to start searching for stuff you'll want to work on when you get there. I know it seems kind of silly but if you'll be a rising senior in the program you do want to be able to work on stuff at cmu you'll use for college auditions. I kind of scrambled for monologues and didn't actually find anything I really connected with and loved so I used all new material for my college auditions and even with my songs I picked all new stuff. So if you get into the program start looking for a bunch of possible stuff, copy sheet music and monologues you love and will want to work on there!

I was under the impression that one thing that happened at CMU during the summer is help in selecting monologues that are appropriate for individual actor's type. Is that not true?

yes it's true that they do help you but they do not, by any means, hold your hand and specifically give you monologues. it could have just been specifically the teachers i had but i did most of my monologue searching myself. While I learned a lot about picking out monologues based on my personal class experiences and watching the process of my classmates in picking monologues, you have to search for monologues to show the teacher and consider. There are too many kids for the teachers to physically hand each kid a number of selections to choose from. I just mean to start a growing interest in potential material you want to bring to start off with.

Just remembering that, last year at this time, people were reporting that they had been accepted to the CMU precollege program. Has anyone heard yet this year?

Hey guys,
Still waiting like all of you - seems no one has heard yet. I'm waiting from CMU as well as BUTI? Anyone have experience at either that can talk about differences?
Thanks

operasinger2000, I spoke with someone at the precollege admissions office earlier this week, and she said that decisions were beginning to go out. So if you applied early, you should be hearing something soon, I would think. My D sent her application in in mid-January, and had not received a letter as of yesterday.

Thanks NotMamaRose,
(cute username by the way)
We called this morning and it turns out that they never got our application. That, or it was lost. We're going up to CMU to visit on Tuesday and they said that we could simply give the office our application there.
Boy oh boy, next time, we're sending it Express Mail. :)

Hey Guys. I'm new at this discussion but I wanted to let you know that I recieved my acceptance letter yesterday ! (March 30) with a postscript date of March 23. I applied mid-Feburary so if anyone applied around that time they should be recieving a letter very soon.

Hello everyone. I just wanted to let you all know that those acceptance letters are definitely making their way out to every one! I got mine on saturday! Now its time to start planning! Good luck to all!

Ah! I'm so excited for all of you guys who are going this year :) I second Kayla and LittleMTgirl (Hi Erica!) in that if you have any questions, feel free to ask :)

However, some of my teachers did give me specific monologue suggestions, unlike LittleMTgirl, so it might depend on your teachers. I did have to do monologue searching myself, though.

I guess my advice would be to join any myspace/facebook group out there for pre-college kids! I met a ton of people on the myspace group before last summer, and it totally helped to see a few familiar faces on the first day.

HAVE FUN!

Yeah I know there is a facebook group already. It's under CMU pre-college '07 i think.....

operasinger, how did your visit to CMU go, and were you able to get another whole application packet together and to them? Yes, I would completely and heartily recommend sending this kind of thing by FedEx or at least by priority mail, so you can track when it arrives and someone signs for it.

It went well actually. I'm hopelessly in love with that school, so that made it a bit more tolerable to deal with the people lol
We asked about the application (at this point I had managed to re-do everything except for reccomendations that were in sealed envelopes) because we noticed that they had cashed the check. So, all they needed was the transcript, which we handed to the woman who said she would take it upstairs. we called the next day and they said that they had everything in place but that even though we submitted it end of february, it would be another 3 weeks. so, we got on the phone with a nice woman on friday who said that we could call monday (today) or tuesday and they could tell us over the phone. which is really nice because then we can send in payment to my other program, or denial.
thanks so much for everyones support here.
next year for colleges, we are so doing fedex.

I am so jealous!!! I want to go back sooo bad, you all are going to have the best summers of your lives!

YAY! We called today and they told us I was accepted!
Soooo excited!
I might be the only one going for a music major instead of musical theater lol
:)

Hi everyone! I'm accepted into the MT program and so excited! Yes, the facebook group (CMU Pre-College '07) is really helpful. We've got some great people that are so helpful answering questions.

I stil haven't gotten my paperwork though. I had to call them a couple of weeks ago. I really want my paperwork!! haha.

Whose else is a MT major?
