Summer at Penn?

i applied to the summer program at penn , as well as the business summer program at wharton. right now though, i would defintly say my chances are much stronger in being accepted to the penn being that they only accept 60 kids for the wharton program

i just wanted to know if anyone has done this? if it was worthwhile, how it looks to the college itself ( any positive impact on admission to the college), or really anythin about the experience i encourage you to share, b/c assuming that i get in @ penn, and not wharton, its important that i kno that its worth it rather than taking a summer job as a counselor or what not

so please get back at me if u have any info

come on

Do a search. There was a thread about LBW a month or two ago on either this Penn site or the high school board. Someone wrote that LBW is not at all a guarantee into Wharton, although some kids do get in (obviously). Any program that is selective (such as LBW) as opposed to one where you pay your money and go, will certainly enhance your application. However, they haven't seen your full year grades, best SATs etc.

I did LBW and the post above is correct. Although I am going to Wharton next year I think only 10 got in from the program (ED). Its an intense program but it costs a lot for 4 weeks. I got aid but I'm sure there isn't much there.

thanks, actually the focus of this thread was more if anyoen had done the UPenn Pre-College Program but thanks for the info on LBW

You will have an awesome time being in LBW, Pre-college program is a bit different, nothing too exciting, but if you have nothing else to do, do it.. But I doubt, there is any impact on your future college/even more so - wharton admission, though...
Interesting, are you still not sure about where to apply: college or wharton? Huge difference...this is something to think about...

phillygirl, did you do LBW? I'm assuming you did. Are you going to Penn next year? What were your stats when you applied to LBW and then to Penn, if you don't mind sharing. You can PM me if you would prefer. S is waiting to hear from LBW and is going to visit Penn next week. Thanks.

i've posted this a million times on earlier threads... but precollege is worth it, if u know how to make the most of it, and umm it def does help you get in. esp if u apply early. seriously almost everyone i know that was in precollege and ED is going to penn with me next year.
what i should prolly mention is that i did it for two years, took advanced psych courses, scored a killer rec from my professor and my friends and i are all sort of brilliant so we wouldve gotten in anyway? i dunno.. ur choice. nerd camp at penn was just a quality time. and i didnt live there, i commuted.

well actually ive already applied to both and am just waiting to hear back which should be soon

thanks shortymxpx good info there haha, kind of interested why theres such a discrepancy btwn ur thoughts and philly's on it but its cool

No discrepancy here, witzness. Please, read carefully: "it def does help you get in. esp if u apply early" so, what actually helped them?
- "applying early", more than anything - the first thing..
- "did it for two years" another thing...
- the third one: "my friends and i are all sort of brilliant"...so we wouldve gotten in anyway". this is maybe the most important thing out of three for the adcom...
Some of my friends who got into LBW already interned at Goldman Sachs and others at UBS while still in HS...all three of them had killer recommendations and great credentials/scores/ec/non-traditional essays/extensive travel experience..yeah, they would have gotten anyway, right...so, if you are hoping to get in Wharton ONLY because you went to LBW, relax...most likely you won't...

haha no thats not what im counting on, i just wanted to know if it was a worthwhile experience
lol

I've still held back on applying to LBW b/c of
1) I didn't know if it would help w/ Wharton Admission
2) It's a lot of money

Flyers87 or phillygirl...could you at look at the stats I do have & see if I am even close enough to be an "on the border" candidate that by attending the program I would actually help my chances?

Also, does anyone know that even if this program doesn't help much at Wharton, will it make a big impact at less prestigious schools?

All of my stats are on this link:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com...ead.php?t=35284

But if you dont have time, here it is in short:
-Top 5% in class (barely) -- ranked about 35/730...4.25 W / 3.85 UW
-SAT I: should be, hopefully, 2170-2250 (760-790M, 650-690R, 750-800W)
-Sat IIs: predicted 750+ math iic, 700+ us hist, 700+ lit
-started a small business, am writing a book, couple clubs...xc/track 3 years
-work 15/hrs a week during school year; 25-30/wk during summer since soph year

THANKS!

My D received her acceptance to LBW on March 8. She thought it would be a great opportunity to see if Penn was the place for her.

The problem with applying now is that LBW has rolling admissions. The chances are slim but apply anyway. You can always turn down an acceptance.

Savvymom, did your D submit PSAT scores or SAT scores?

My D submitted only PSATs, she took the March SATs.

i thought they were sending out apps in may? has anyone else been accepted/rejected yet?

alright, no matter what anyone says, having penn on your resume scores you brownie points with your adcom. looking back on precollege, the most worthwhile aspects of the program were... realizing that i couldn't live without penn, having credits toward my major/general reqs, and establishing a social network which has made this an awesome prefrosh year and will make next year's transition cake. alright im done propagating precollege. its sort of funny tho, looking at these boards and seeing everyone like stress about getting into college when now it really didnt seem that hard... i wish i had spent less time worrying about it and enjoying my senior year more

haha sounds good

with all these people getting admitted into lbw already, and yet me not havign recieved a reply from them im just assuming im either in the NO WAY or IF WE NEED SPOTS pile lol

From what I heard, rolling admission means they admit/deny you when they receive your application but only tell you in May. That's why I'm very...confused...to hear that someone already received their decision.

I applied in January and still no word as to whether or not I got in.
