I'm a junior and in order to bolster my app a bit and learn about subjects my school doesn't offer (psychology, sociology, music history) I'm planning on taking classes over the summer. I can either take one class a SUNY Binghamton, a relatively good public school, or two or three classes at our local community college for the same price (my parents don't want to pay that much for summer courses if they don't have to). I'm sort of confused though... Will colleges look more highly on courses taken at SUNY because of it's reputation as a fairly prestigious public school, or will it be the same even if I attend community college? Also, would credits from SUNY be more likely to transfer than credits from a small CC? I would like to attend Binghamton this summer obviously because it would be more of a "college" experience than community college, but is it practical o take only one course from a good school instead of a few courses from an unknown CC? Thanks for any input...

anyone..??

Community college classes are fine. Just make sure the classes you take are the kind that can be used at four year colleges.

Many kids at my son's school take community college classes and end up at places like Stanford, Berkeley, Michigan, some Ivies, etc.

Many schools like Stanford will let students use the community classes to get out of certain requirements, but won't count the units.

Michigan and Berkeley do count the units. So it depends on the school.

cool, thanks dstark!
