Summer B?

Hey guys,
I was accepted! :D However, it says I was accepted into the 2014 Summer B freshman class. Can someone explain what this means? Thanks!

Congrats! This only means that you have to start in Summer B semester (starting around July 1 2014). You are required to be there this semester, but if you were hoping for the Fall semester, you can appeal with a reason of why you want to switch (No risks at all, I did this myself a couple years ago to match with my sister who got admitted in Fall and me in Summer B for financial reasons of course).

Oh okay, thanks! Thats kind of strange haha the whole Summer B thing. But I’m in, nevertheless. Is there an advantage or disadvantage to being accepted under these terms?

@hectorsalamanca how did you go about the appeal process to switch to fall term? I was accepted to summer but I was planning to work to help pay for college?

I don’t remember exactly. I think I emailed the admissions office with my request for a term change and an explanation. Either an email or some text field somewhere on the site. I got accepted really soon after, I think they switch depending as long as some other person whats to switch over to your semester. So you’d wanna think about it ASAP.

My daughter was accepted yesterday and she actually applied for the Summer B (move in begins June 25th with classes beginning June 30th). She wanted to get there early to learn the campus before fall when it will be packed. She has heard from current UF students that she is friends with that they had the time of their lives beginning in the summer. Congratulations to you!!!

Thank you!! so for Summer B, you start school June 30, and the first semester ends August 8, then you have the fall semester off to do as you please (so it’s kind of like your summer vacation), and then you go back for the second semester on January 6. Am I right?

@xipaja - no starting summer B means you continue in the fall. IA students get fall off but not student starting summer B. Summer B students generally take 2 classes and get a bit of a head start getting to know other students and the campus before the start of fall.

Oh okay, thanks. So does that mean I’d have to forsake all my summers throughout college? Or is it just this first summer?

Just the first summer. :)

Some financial aid doesn’t start until the fall, so that can be a factor.

One other thing is that students are required to complete 9 summer hours to graduate so this helps towards that requirement.
