I am a junior in high school this year and am currently bearing the great stress of the fact that I didn't do any internships or colllege programs this summer. I have a very high GPA and strong test scores, but I know that there's more to acceptance than that. I'm interested in going somewhere prestigious, but I'm worried about the fact that I'm already falling behind in this regard. If I do volunteer work during the year, and do some sort of intership next summer, can I salvage myself? Or is the summer before junior year quite important? I am very paranoid about this, so be gentle.

Nevermind. I’m repealing this whole statement. I realized from looking at this board how effing crazy some people are and that those might truly be the people who get into the top schools, but it’s not worth it. I don’t want to be stressed out and anxious all the time, I want to be happy. :)

seriously, as long as you do something that’s enjoyable for you in the summer, you’re good. I’d suggest not loitering around Wal-Mart and graffiting passing dachsunds or whatever, but do something fun. Go to camp, volunteer at a camp, chill…don’t waste time, but don’t stress about filling it either.
