I'm trying to figure out what to do for summer '09, and I was hoping I could get some feedback. I'd really LOVE to do two things this coming summer, just for the fun of it, but I'm having a hard time deciding.

I'm really big on "nerd camp" and have been attending for the past six years. Most recently, the past three years have been JHU CTY, which I adored, but I'm too old for now.

I've been invited to partake in the Brown SSP and the People to People Student Ambassadors program. I was close to going to both last year, and have friends who attended both, and am pretty well-versed in procedures and all that fun stuff. I'd really like to do P2P and go to Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji for three weeks, but I'd also love to take a mini-course at Brown. I'd probably have the time during the summer to do both, but obviously not the finances.

Since this is my last summer before apps go out, I know that I have to impress. So, do I go the traditional "nerd camp" route, this time at an ivy and show that I can handle college life and courseloads, even though I've been doing it for a while? Or do I go the "I'm-cultured-and-I-travel-and-pet-kangaroos-and-do-community-service-on-beaches-in-Fiji" route? I'd be elligable for college credit with both.

Oh! And I'm not really aiming toward ivies for the app process. I'll probably apply to Brown/Cornell/Columbia, just for the hell of it as HIGH reaches, but I'm mostly sticking toward the better of the SUNYs and above-average liberal arts schools in the Northeast.

FYI, I'm well aware that P2P isn't looked upon highly by some schools, but it's a pretty big thing around here. And most schools would prefer Brown, but does that really matter if I'm not applying to any hardcore ivies?

TIA!
