I’m currently a Junior looking for ways to spend it to boost my college app. What’s my best way to do so right now? Please rank the choices.

Internship somewhere (I want a prestigious one, though. I’m not sure if I can find one so late.)

Community college courses (I was thinking Environ. Science and Psychology but if those courses aren’t good recommend me some!)

Volunteering (most likely at a hospital or soup kitchen-type place)

You’re not going to find a prestigious internship right now. And don’t do something because it will boost your college app…do it because you want to. If you want to spend your summer taking classes, then take community college courses. If you want to volunteer, then volunteer.

i volunteered in a poor third-world african country for twe weeks before my senior year.
not only boosts your app, but gives you a life-changing experience as well. afterall, nothing beats riding in a broken taxi with 5 other volunteers in the desert.

Sorry, I suppose I came off as someone who has no passions and just does everything to get into college. That’s not true. I truly do want to help the unfortunate. Since the 7th grade I have wanted to volunteer at an animal shelter but they don’t let teens and preteens do anything there.

I have also desperately wanted to raise money for a third world society, but in this economy I’m not sure how successful I will be. I have actually even thought about getting a job to earn money to send to such a place, but nobody’s hiring.

I would love to go to Africa! But unfortunately that’s not an option for me. HOWEVER, I am going with my family to India this summer. Is there any way I can help out there?

But at the same time I really want to raise my GPA and get into a good college so that I can have a better chance of being successful. I plan on donating a lot of my income to (reliable) charities when I’m older. That would probably make a larger impact.

So the community college courses. Which ones should I take? I want to focus on Biology because I actually did well in it. I took AP Bio as a sophomore and got a 5 on the test, 790 on the SAT II. I thought Psychology and Environ Science would complement it well. However, I am also willing to try:

Philisophy
Journalism
Sociology
Global Issues and Perspectives
Environmental Science

I went to a Diversity leadership camp at a local U for a week, participated in a three week long actuarial science program at howard U in D.C. and took classes at another local U to prepare for my fall APs haha
