Summer Bridge at UNC Chapel Hill

Hi

Anyone here who has been to summer bridge (6 weeks summer program) before starting the first semester. Only some new in-state students can attend the summer bridge program. I think it is a good to get a head start for the university life. But still, I would like to know how good and beneficial is this program? The good thing is lodging and teaching is paid and they also pay some money that can cover books etc. Students have to pay for food as the dining services are closed during summer and there is no meal plan available.

Any thoughts? Thanks

I think that is an amazing opportunity. My son did not do that but he took summer classes last year. This summer he will remain on campus working. There seems that many kids do summer school and the campus will have lots of people around. It is a great way to ease into UNC and make some friends. As long as its free except food it is worth it

Do you have to take certain classes?

Thank you. Students take two courses. English and math or chemistry and the scores are included in the gpa. My son is interested for the same reasons, easy transition to university life. Its free, only major expense is food so he is willing to go. They do not allow students to go home. No weekends and keep them busy with studies and other activities. Sounds interesting.
