can someone please clear this up for me. Is it mandatory to do this program? I am working over the summer to lower the amount on my loans, but would like to get some college credit from the program too. any suggestions? should i work or do the program? the only advantage i see to the program is getting accustomed to college life and 6 units. Is it worth it?

not mandatory at all, just an opportunity if you feel like you want to take advantage of it; i was planning on clearing up a bunch of GE requirements over the summer but i got invited to participate in the program. if i get chosen for the program, i'll probably choose to go try it out. truthfully 6 units is NOT worth a thing. to clarify, they are giving students 6 units of elective credits to go towards your graduation. i, personally, wouldn't mind taking a few extra elective classes of interest to me. basically i'll sum on the pros for you:
1) the value is $4000+ but you get that covered; you only have to pay for your books and personal expenses
2) you get to live on residential life early
3) priority course registration
4) make friend early

i'd say work if you really feel the financial need to.

i see. how many people in here are going to do the program??

i sent my application in for sumer bridge, but i dont know if i should do it. Is it really worth 5 weeks of my summer? I also read that you cannot go home on weekends or leave, which totally sucks.
The only benefit I see in the summer bridge is the supplemental grant we'll supposely recieve if we complete summer bridge and qualify for it. but probably the cost of the books and expenses during summer bridge will exceed the 'supplemental grant' we'll recieve.
There's also the benefit of 6 units of credit for graduation, but im sure i'll recieve enough credit during my 4 years there as an undergrad.
Another suppose benefit is we'll "be prepared to transition in to university life, and we get to live in the dorms early". but i'll be spending 4 years of my life there, im not in a rush to live there so early.
The negatives seems to outweigh the positive, but i'll probably end up doing the program anyways =) lol.

yea i also turned in my app...like right after i did that i was offered a really cool summer job hehe sigh...i called them and they told me that books last year for science students were 250 and non science students are roughly 150 so the costs aren't tooo bad but it is 5 weeks of my life haha i haven't had a summer break without school in centuries lol if i get it accepted ill think about it because there are alot of benifits to it i guess...
