I'm interested in applying to the Summer@Brown precollege courses program, but I'm not entirely positive that I want to. If any veterans of the program could describe their experience, that would be really nice :). If I am accepted, I'm either going to take a pre-med course (most likely An Introduction to Medicine) or an English course (probably Experimental Writing or Putting Ideas into Words), so if anyone could give any insight on these specific programs, that would be really helpful also. Also, I know that I shouldn't care about this, but unfortunately I inevitably do: how prestigious is it? It seems kind of easy to get in. The only things required in the application are a transcript and an application fee. I know it's an Ivy League and everything, but it just seems too easy.
One last thing...I'm a current ninth grade student. The site is kind of vague as to whether rising sophomores or current sophomores can attend...do you know if I'm eligible?

I had a friend who went to summer@brown, and I’m thinking of going this year. she did some sort of biomedical science thing, and she seemed to like it, but she said her course was the only one that lasted from 9-3. most courses are only 2 hours, and then you’re done for the day and you just wander around campus.

im looking at the brown leadership institute, which looks more rigorous, and ive heard that some of the normal summer@brown courses can be jokes… hope this helps!

Hi, last summer I went to Summer at Brown. I took the Intensive English Course that was only for International Students. This course had 6 hours of classes per day and I had lot of homework.
You can take 2 pre-college courses so you wouldn’t have just 3 hours of classes per day. I met students from the pre-college courses and they actually had a lot of homework.

I totally recommend this program. If you have more questions just ask me!

it sounds like the people who were happiest at summer@brown took a longer (more than 3 hours) course. id look into taking the longest course that they have that you’re interested in!

Literally one of the best experiences of my life. It helped shape who I am as an individual and game me a new perspective on college life. The people you meet there are wonderful and the class I took was difficult but still allowed for a social life. P.M for more detailed and specific info/if you have any questions I’d be happy to answer them. :)

I agree with skisoccer2014. Such an amazing experience. There was a lot of work, but you also get the opportunity to hang out with friends and explore providence. It really gave me a real college experience. Most of the classes are pretty small, so the professor is always willing to talk to you. The campus is beautiful, the town is great, and I can guarantee that you’ll meet a ton of great dedicated people!

Hi guys I’m looking into summer programs and Summer@Brown is the most intriguing to me, but I have a couple of questions.
I will definitely try and get the Dean’s scholarship if I apply, but if the financial aid given isn’t enough will I be able to decline? All of the courses I’m interested in are 2-3 weeks, which are very expensive…
Also, if I want to take more than one course during the same time frame (i.e. Social Psychology and Introduction to Sociology: High School as a Social Laboratory from July 23 to August 10) does it cost $10,000 as opposed to $5000 because I’m taking two courses?

Apply early and arrive early.
Last year’s high school and middle school programs were mobbed. The registration queue went arount the building on the hottest day of the summer.

I emailed an admissions person at the program, and they highly recommend NOT taking more than one course for multiple reasons. I asked if the tuition would be doubled, and she didn’t answer that part of the question, so i assume it would be.

Most kids only took one course, but you can take two. There is an option for that so the tuition isn’t doubled! Once you get accepted they will give you instructions on how to take two classes. Also, college credit is only given for the seven week courses. Hope that helps and message me if you have questions!
