Summer @ Brown vs. John's Hopkins CTY

Long story short, I'm a rising sophomore in Alaska who is interested in these two programs. However, my parents are worried about costs. Can someone give me some information on the costs as well as their experiences with the programs?

From what we know, the cost for John's Hopkins CTY is roughly $4,200 in Seattle or Los Angeles (I can only go to session 2), but I have no clue what Summer @ Brown costs, as I couldn't find a ton of info on the website. Can someone give me a number and, if possible, a recommendation about which one I should attend?

Thanks in advance! :)

About cost is here [2012 Pre-College Program Fees | Brown University Office of Continuing Education](Pre-College Program | Brown University)

Thanks a ton. Does anyone have anything to say regarding experiences at the programs? They both seem really cool, but obviously, I can only choose one.

I did CTY on the east coast and had a fantastic experience. I highly recommend it. That being said, are you looking at for-college-credit programs at Brown? One of my friends did Brown and also did CTY and loved them both, but if you can get college credit, everything else being equal, that seems like a tie-breaker. But I loved CTY.

I looked into Summer at Brown, but it seemed a bit boring. I don’t know, maybe it’s just me, though, because I’ve known people who have loved it there. CTY is a great place though, I’ve heard.

CTY is probably a better choice. its Johns Hopkins! Brown may be more fun but if youre truly interested in academics go for CTY.

I’ve had two friends who went to CTY and they said it was definitely really social and they made lots of friends… but the classes were 7 hours a day so it’s basically like school.

Brown seems more like a college experience to me since classes are only three hours a day but there’s lots of homework especially if you’re taking a science class. But when you’re not in class you can do pretty much whatever… they have workshops and trips and stuff but it’s up to you whether you want to go or not.

In both cases though I’ve heard that the science classes tend to be a little more intense… so I guess it depends on what class you take!
And in terms of cost, all the courses at CTY are 3 weeks (I believe) so they have a fixed rate. Brown has different options for how many weeks you want to go… and it also depends on whether you’re residential or not. I know a three-week residential course is something like $5,200.
