Summer@Brown

I’m a rising junior from Mississippi, and I am thinking about applying to Summer@Brown. What is a typical day like? How are the classes? Is three weeks too long or too short? Any input, positive or negative, will be appreciated.

hi, im thinking about doing that too.. what classes are you thinking of applying to? i have heard it is really fun from people who have done it (there is another post that i started about it somewhere on the board)

Brown is a really great place during the summer and there is so much happening in Providence (free concerts, waterfire, etc.) A typical day would probably vary depending on which course(s) you decide to take.

I'm thinking of doing the Western Classical Lit. or the Shakespeare class. Is there an application deadline on the website? I couldn't find it.

what session is that? no, there is no application deadline on the website (its rolling), but they advise to do it soon.

The session is July 17-August 6. I guess I need to get my application in soon.

I took a forensic science class last summer. Here was my typical schedule

8:00AM-9:00AM-wake up, morning routine, go eat breakfast at VW Dining hall walk to Life Sciences Building

9:00AM-12:00PM-Class

12:00PM-12:45PM-Eat lunch, usually at VW with other friends getting out from class.

1:00PM-??-Take a nap (you will see later why this became a regular and integral part of my schedule)

??-~5:00PM-do any HW if assigned (I rarely ever had hw, and if I did, it was less than an hour of work)

5:00PM-5:30PM walk over to friends' dorms, discuss dinner and nighttime plans

5:30PM-6:00PM-eat light crappy dinner at VW.

6:00PM-~2:30AM-chill out, go to any parties, maybe go to mall to see movie, I went to several college kids' parties at Brown and RISD, which were def the best nights. Usually ate a slice of pizza from Antonio's before going to sleep. I tried to check-in every night at 2:30 due to my 9AM class. My roommate had a 1pm class and often came home at 4:30am or later.

~2:45am-3:15am-Arrive back at room, shower, get ready for bed, drink lots of water and aspirin if i'd been drinking.

It's very fun. Best summer ever.

So there is no curfew? Awesome.

Hehe, you're a little confused, i_wanna. The LiSci (Life Sciences) building is currently under construction, and was not in existance last summer. I think you mean Biomed.

While, I'm bored.

I finally got my decision today. I'm going to the July 17th session. Anyone else going?

aaahhh my session is late june - july 17th! is no one going then? (I'm in Faulkner and the Modern Mind.....lit+psych/phil.=WONDERFUL summer)

My son will be attending the session beginning July 17. What's everyone here going to be taking?

SOMETHING TRAGIC HAS HAPPENED. I just found out that the Summer@Brown course I applied to--Faulkner and the Modern Mind--is being CANCELLED, along with my second choice, Social and Political Philosophy. I am still very interested in going, but the application deadline is Sunday and I don't know what to do! Help!

I would call someone there, explain to them the situation, have a list of courses you would like to do in mind to see if there is space for you in them.

I'm taking the classical lit. course.

I'm going for a music technology course. It's a three week vacation from lifegaurding if it totally sucks, which it won't.

which weeks are you going?

I want to say July 17th to August 6th.

good news; I emailed the people at Brown and FINALLY got everything sorted out. I'm taking Philosophy East and West from June 26-July 16. Is annnnyone going then? (It seems like everyone is going July 17 - August 6, but I have intense cross country then...)

I heard that Summer@Brown was really rigorous. My friend went there, and she told me that she had never done so much work in her life before.
