Summer@Brown

Is this a good summer program for someone interested in math, science, engineering, and programming?
In addition, is it considered prestigious? (I'm not just thinking about applying to it for its prestige...I'm actually interested!)

Does anyone have any personal experiences to share?
Any suggestions for other summer programs?

Thanks! All responses are appreciated.

Is this a good summer program for someone interested in math, science, engineering, and programming?
-Probably not, from my experience my Intro to Biochemistry course was not very rigorous

In addition, is it considered prestigious? (I’m not just thinking about applying to it for its prestige…I’m actually interested!)
-Not really

Does anyone have any personal experiences to share?
-It was a lot of fun. I experience living on my own for the first time and definitely learned a lot in class too. However, I think there are programs that are much more prestigious and rigorous. If you’re a student looking mostly to have a good time with the college experience while learning in between, it’s a great program. However, if you want your summer to be MOSTLY academic I wouldn’t suggest it. I loved it A LOT, don’t get me wrong, and wouldn’t have done things differently if given the choice but I spent the next month after Brown doing research at a local university and got some great results.

Any suggestions for other summer programs?
-Maybe try contacting a local professor about doing research? There are also some other research programs like Garcia at Stony Brook and RSI at MIT? I believe but I’m pretty sure deadlines for most of those have passed. Most precollege programs aren’t very rigorous from my experience but I would ask some other people about it.

Thanks for the help!

Feel free to PM me with any questions. I kind of made it sound not so great in this post. It definitely was an AMAZING experience but I’m not sure if it’s what you’re looking for.

EDIT: By the way, I was originally not going to do research since my professor said I wasn’t committed enough. However, his other choice ended up falling through so I got to go. This is just to say that I picked Brown over doing research originally.

Hi, I know that most of you guys happen to be in like high school, but I have a few questions about the SPARK program for middle schoolers because I’m only in 8th grade. Please answer them if you can. I’d really appreciate it:

Is the SPARK program a bit similar to the regular pre-college one?

How much freedom do they allow you to have? (I know that some prople said that for the pre-college program, you were allowed to go to the mall and stuff, so you could pretty much do whatever you wanted once you finished classes.)

And…that’s basically it. I’m going to the prpgram this summer, so I just want to know what I’m in for. Thanks ahead of time!!!
