Does going to the Summer@Brown program increase your chances of getting accepted to
Brown?

Going only really shows you can afford the program and that you’re not sitting around doing absolutely nothing. With that said, you might get something out of it that you can use to your advantage. Just going, though, wouldn’t do much.

Totally agree with Uroogla. There are reasons to go to Summer@Brown, but one of them should NOT be that it gives you an edge in admissions.

However, I will tell you what I told my kiddo when she went (and asked that same question): It probably doesn’t impress the Admissions folks at all, but what it DOES do is tell YOU whether you like the city, the surrounding areas, the atmosphere, and will give you an idea about whether you will like the school.

My kiddo did go to a 3-week session and came back even crazier ‘in love’ with the school than before. But, more importantly, she came back with some idea about the difference in a college-type schedule and a high school-type school. She specifically talked about the self-discipline needed to organize her homework/study time versus entertainment/friend time and to know when to walk away from the group in order to get her homework for the next day done. She also noted the need for self-discipline in order to get up early and go for exercise, training, etc. versus lolling around in bed and missing/skipping classes.

She had attended another college-type summer program the year before that she loved. However, she noted the difference in a program that had ‘structured unstructured’ time for the kids and Summer@Brown that gave the kids ownership of their entire non-class time.

So, there are benefits you can receive from attending the program. Just don’t expect it to be a ‘chip’ for Admissions’ review. But the benefits you DO take away from the program may very well help you in Admissions and beyond.
