Hello.
I am a high school freshman. I have gone to the intermediate 3-week camp at Interlochen Fine Arts Camp in Northern Michigan, as a piano major. I am looking for a similar camp, which is more challenging, but not as much as the 6-week high-school track at Interlochen. If anyone has gone to such a camp, please recommend.

If you are interested in playing chamber music, Credo at Oberlin is a wonderful festival and worth investigating. My S has been there twice, is a cellist so I don’t specifically know about the piano faculty, but he thinks it has the best faculty of any of the many festivals he has attended.

Maybe Kinhaven’s senior session?

Yellow Barn YAP is 2 weeks, and is pretty intensive chamber.

Thanks so much for the replies. I’m leaning toward a piano camp, not chamber, though. Anything for a serious freshman whose skill level still needs improving before I go and try the best high school camps out there?
The piano festival at oberlin. Perfect faculty. http://new.oberlin.edu/office/summer-programs/cooper-piano-festival/
Oberlin, Yellow Barn, are great!! I would also check Brevard music center its very good also.
Bowdoin (some chamber work though), Tanglewood, SUNY New Paltz, IIYM at Kansas are all very good
Many of the programs mentioned in this thread are at least as serious as Interlochen’s six-week session.
My daughter had a great time at New England Music Camp last year as a rising 7th grader. One of the reasons we chose NEMC over Interlochen’s Intermediate program is that it offers a high level of individual attention. It’s a small place, and they’re also able to offer a degree of flexibility that’s not possible at Interlochen.
I really have no idea how the piano major at NEMC works, but the orchestra program was overall a really great experience for my daughter. As long as the piano faculty is in the range of qualification that would be a fit for you, I would think NEMC would prepare you well for moving on to more serious summer programs in future years if you decide to head that way.
Would appreciate hearing about Credo Oberlin summer music camp.
I recommend IIYM Summer Music Academy (Kansas), John Perry Academy (CA), Colburn Music Academy Piano Festival (CA), Indiana U. Piano Academy (Indiana), Itchaca College Summer Piano Institute(NY) and Brevard Summer Festival High School Piano (NC).
Sorry I didn’t realized it was thread from 2014… still new here…
