SUMMER CHANCES! Yale, Brown, etc...

Hi everybody!! I've done a chance thread before but with new SAT scores and everything I wanted to get some more input, especially about YALE SCEA. Thanks so much for reading in advance, I'll chance you back when I can.

White, upper middle class (little financial aid if any), no hooks
Top public high school, very competitive, sends many students to Ivies and other competitive schools yearly

SAT 2s: 790 Bio (M), 750 Math II, 760 Chem, 800 US History
AP Exams: 5 on Bio and Euro. Took 5 more AP tests this year, looking for 5s on all.
GPA: 4.0 UW/ 5.12 Weighted (School has a weird system, out of 5.3; upward trend)
School does not rank but I am probably top 5%

I take 6 more AP classes senior year.

No major awards.

Anything else?: Costa Rica summer experience for 3 weeks, immersion and community service. This summer I intern at a biology lab at UPenn and will work on another short film. Undecided major. I take Portuguese lessons as an independent study.

My common app essay is at least somewhat unique (about my love for jazz piano). My supplemental essays will hopefully be good as well.
I should get one amazing recommendation and one average-good one.

Chance me for...
Yale (SCEA... am I likely to get deferred? Am I better off applying early elsewhere?)
Brown
Pomona
Northwestern
Wash U. in St. Louis
George Washington U.
University of Pittsburgh

Advice is welcome!

Pitt: In
GW: Almost safety

You have an incredibly unique and interesting profile, strong academics, and strong test scores. Your varsity athletics work in concert with your impressive accomplishments in filmmaking, poetry, and the literary arts to create a picture of an interesting, well-adapted, well-rounded student. If i was an admissions officer your application would most DEFINITELY catch my eye and deserve a second look, so in that sense i believe you have been remarkably successful. You are definitely in the running for ALL of those schools, but on a more specific level:
Yale: Im guessing early you might have just below a 50% chance of acceptance (thats pretty bold, but i think you can do it), but if you get deferred i would drop your rate down to 25% [low reach]
Brown: I would give you a 35% chance [low reach/high match]
Pomona: 35% chance [low reach/high match]
Northwestern: 45% chance [high match/match]
Wash U. in St. Louis: 55% chance [match]
George Washington U.: 80% chance (although tufts syndrome might come into play) [high safety]
University of Pittsburgh: 80% chance [high safety]
You are a fantastic applicant! Good luck!

You are definitely a very strong applicant and I think you know as much; you have some super unique traits that the schools look for beyond scores etc.

Yale - You are obviously an incredible candidate for the school, you have about as much of a chance as any extremely qualified applicant. I’m of the belief that it is still a reach for even the most qualified applicants; I know several 4.0/2400s/Excellent ECs that didn’t get in. Sometimes the college process is weird like that. That being said, I’d put it as a Low Reach.

Wash U - Match
George Washington U - Safety
** Pitt ** - Safety

Wow, thanks so much for the thorough replies guys!

Yale: Reach (but it is a reach for everyone, but definitely worth a shot with your stats!)
Pomona: Match
Northwestern: Match
Wash U. in St. Louis: Match
George Washington U.: Safety-ish
University of Pittsburgh: Safety

You are definitely matched in all of the universities except Yale. I would say you are reach. Good luck!

Bump, looking for a few more opinions. If Yale is my first choice should I do SCEA?

Amazing stats. I think you have a good a shot as anyone I’ve seen, but of course even for the best, Yale is a reach. Good luck!

Your stats are great and ECs as well. What are you planning to study? I may have missed that but from your EC, it shows you have interest in film making/ theatre / performance arts?

George Washington University- Definitely a safety! Good luck on everything :)

I’m currently undecided, but I’m leaning towards the psychology/neuroscience/biology realm. I may choose to minor/get some sort of certificate in either music or film though.

Sounds great! Yale is in your league, but like always it is a reach for everyone. Doing work in a lab at UPenn looks incredible as well! Your superscore is great, you have unique extra curriculars - good job starting early on your Common App!

Yale 10% (like many other applicants of the highest caliber)
Brown 10%
Pomona 20%
Northwestern 15%
Wash U. in St. Louis 15%
George Washington U. 40%
University of Pittsburgh 30%

Could you please chance me back for Yale SCEA? this is the link:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1518519-chances-ivies-duke-uchic-stanford-please.html

Wow good job! I think you have a great shot at Yale, Brown, and Pomona! You will be a strong applicant!
Yale: Reach as it is for anyone (but strong applicant)
Brown: Reach as it is for anyone (but strong applicant)
Pomona: Reach, but lower a bit than Yale and Brown
Northwestern: High Match/Low Reach
Wash U. in St. Louis: Low reach
George Washington U: Match
University of Pittsburgh: Match

Good luck! Chance me back?

Bump. Anyone with advice specifically related to Yale SCEA?

Bump one more time…

“Yale admitted 675 of 4,304 early applicants and denied admission to 1,180 students. The University deferred another 2,394 — or 55.6 percent of applicants”. The acceptance rate was 15.7% for early, and 6.8% for regular. Yes, it’s a self selecting pool. But, your chances still more than double when you apply SCEA. I see Yale’s policy as similar to Stanford’s, if you’re a strong applicant and that’s your first choice, it makes sense to apply early. The most likely thing that will happen is you’ll get deferred to regular admissions, which gets you to the same place as regular admissions anyways. I think if Yale really is your first choice, you’re a strong enough applicant to apply early. If you’d prefer elsewhere, don’t apply to yale early just because you can.

Yale: Reach (but still within reach)
Brown: Reach, but lower then yale
Pomona: Reach around Brown level
Northwestern: High Match/ Low Reach
Wash U. in St. Louis: Low Reach
George Washington U.: Safety
University of Pittsburgh: Low Match

Good Luck!

Yale: Reach. Applying ED will put you at an advantage, especially if you don’t require fin aid. My cousin was in a similar position and got into SCEA ED.
Brown: Reach
Pomona: Low Reach/High Match
Northwestern: Ditto
Wash U. in St. Louis: Ditto
George Washington U: Safety (and expect some ridiculously appealing fin aid)
University of Pittsburgh: Match

Yale- reach, but you def have a better shot applying early. if finances aren’t a problem, you should do scea
Brown-low reach
Pomona-reach
Northwestern-low reach/high match
Wash U. in St. Louis-low reach
George Washington U.-safety
University of Pitts-match
