do UCs count summer classes? i thought they only count up to spring?
so it doesnt really matter? ill probably take elective music classes.

fanfan -- UC's do count summer classes, but they don't contribute to your GPA. They only disregard summer classes to fulfill IGETC and/or Pre-req's (unless stated to your otherwise, specifically).

wth???? no gpa? thats wack i dont believe it

only if you're transferring. if you will be attending your CC in the fall, then they do count it to your GPA. But if you are transferring, you are no longer a CC student but a student at their UC. UC's only accept the GPA/grade of UC summer classes, not CSU or CC summer classes.

okay so if im going to transfer in 2 years and take this summer it will count?

to clarify when i get into my university ill never come back to my cc

I bet you will.

I have a similar question... does anyone know if the following is possible:

I'm transferring this fall (probably to UCLA as a comm major) and was looking into double majoring. I found another major in the L&S that I'm VERY interested in, however, out of the 7 pre-reqs, I am missing three. Is there any way I can still get into this particular major?

My thinking was, I could take two of the pre-reqs this summer at my CCC, and then the last one the first semester at UCLA. But I have no idea if this is even 'possible'... would the pre-reqs taken this summer at my CCC count even though I haven't applied to this 2nd major yet and have already been accepted to UCLA as a comm major?

Anyone know? (thanks!)

Sorry, I have a little misunderstanding. If I take a summer class at CCC, the class count, but gpa doesn't? Does that applied that to all classes even the IGETC?

I would assume that's wrong...just doesn't seem right. I'm sure summer classes at a CC count towards your GPA...

only if you are going to be attending a UC/CSU THIS fall (fall 2008). If you're starting CC or in your 1st year going to your second year, then yes, your summer school GPA counts.

If you have applied for transfer fall 2007 and have been accepted spring 2008 and ultimately attending a new establishment (UC/CSU/Private) Fall 2008, then your CC summer school grades do not count. All you need to do is pass the class.

The downside of this is that it will give you more units without boosting your GPA, thus making it more difficult to raise your GPA if you happen to get a C at a UC (or D, F) then your increase in units work against you, without giving you that A that may counterblanace that C, D or F.

Yeah...thats what I was thinking so I guess there was some confusion. Soo just to make sure, I am currently a junior in high school and will be attending a CCC after I graduate. I plan to take summer classes at a CCC this summer so I can get a head start so the summer classes I take will be factored into my CC GPA for when I apply to transfer correct?

Yes, that will most definitely factor into your GPA.

Just know this. Any UC, CSU and most Private school students can take summer school classes at a CC/JC, yet the grade they receive in that class can not negatively or positively impact their GPA. For them, it is only a pass/no pass basis and they receive the units necessary to graduate.

Unless you are a CC student or it is stated otherwise by your school (However this is a set rule placed by ALL UC's and CSU's) then your GPA will remain unaffected by your summer school grades.

I learned this from the UCLA rep and friends that attend CC for summer school yet totally slacked off.

Yeah I actually remember my friend saying that a while back when he went to take some classes in CC over the summer as a UCSD student.

I believe so, just make sure it's transferable to a college you want to attend.

my new student counselor said that summer English class might be too diffcult, is this true? or does this also depends on the professor?

My same friend took English over the summer and he thought it wasn't too bad...

I suggest you take a hard English class over the normal semester. English is a fundamentally key subject and without a solid base, many students find themselves completely miserable with all the papers they need to write for school.

In my experience, HS English is TOTALLY different than college level English. In no way does HS English prepare you for how to write decently at the college level.

I edit the essays of UCSD, UCSC and UCD students and their grades IMPROVE (crazy, at least I think so!) when I edit them! It is not like I'm a grammar pro, it is mainly because writing is the main thing for my major (that and reading comprehension). Even then, I know I'm going to be in for one hell of a ride at UCLA.

For your major classes and your English classes, I suggest you challenge yourself. Prepare for a shock. I'm not a super writer now (clearly) but in comparison to high school, well... let's just say that I should be getting the Nobel Prize in Literature soon.

What about AP English? Does that prepare you well for college English? I would think so because it is a college-level course...

xleper17,

You think the CCC English 101 would help my writing dramatically? As you see, I struggles to write efficiency and well-written like yours.
