Anyone have any experience taking summer classes at the School of Visual Arts in New York City? My son is considering graphic design courses for this coming summer.
Any other possibilities he should consider?

My daughter did a summer progrm at SVA the summer between junior and senior year - 2008.
She did NYU’s program the year beofre. Her focus was photography.
NYU’s program is much more controlled and suplervised. SVA’s was not.
She liked them both. She liked SVA because she said the instructors were more hands on - staying with them throughout the class. At NYU, the professors came in, explained the topic and left. TA took over.
At the same time, she learned more about photography, art and herself at NYU.
She would tell you had more fun at SVA.

She received college credit at both schools. NYU’s classes were more easily accepted at colleges when she applied last year.

Interestingly enough, she applied to both schools, and more, for college. She ended up choosing Parsons. Came home at Christmas - after one semester. Is home now and returning to Parsons in the fall to major in Communication Design. She was burned out of photography.

She loves New York City.

I think you are looking for adult classes, not pre college?
I only took one 2 weeks adobe intro but it made me basically able to use it good enough for my sad job, to meet bare minimum graphic needs. The instructor( in house instructor also teach college as well) was very very very patient, other students had range of skills but respectful to someone tech moron and twice their age. It was expensive out of pocket but I became OK useful my boss refunded me in the end.

Their chairs and the lighting are the best. I don’t know what exactly do to your eyes but it won’t bug after all day staring the screen. The chair was one of those (fake of) thousands dollar kind with mesh support.
When I toured SUNY Purchase computer lab, did I see that haves and not haves ever so clearly… money buys better stuff, you can feel better with better stuff, maybe that would make you better stuff to earn more money to buy more stuff…
America! America! O beautiful

My coworker takes class at Parsons when new software comes out, more of communication, publish thing, though. Suppose that’s their strength.
I like SVA for their tacky subway ad that entertain commuters year around.

and no food drink even water was not allowed in the lab. I don’t know it is her rule or the schools but liked that attitude, like they mean business.
