I live in San Diego and would like to take summer classes at UCSD so I can save money on living expenses, and just commute from home. My question is about which classes I should take at UCSD to fulfill Physics 2 and Math 4A at UCSB. Here are descriptions of physics courses at both universities: UC Santa Barbara General Catalog - Physics
Physics Courses
Here are the math descriptions for the two: UC Santa Barbara General Catalog - Mathematics
Mathematics Courses
The problem is that Physics 2A at UCSD seems to cover both Physics 1 and 2 at UCSB, and I only need credit for Physics 2, so I am not sure if I need 2A or 2B. Also, for math, UCSB no longer has the 5-series or Math 3C, so as UCSB requires Math 4A (linear algebra) after Math 3A and 3B, and the UCSD equivalent comes later in the series in the form of 20F, is it possible to sign up for 20F at UCSD? I tried to ask a counselor at my school, but they were only able to tell me that Math 20F equals Math 4A and the physics advisor has yet to respond to my email sent two days ago. Since registration opens for UCSD on Monday, it would be nice if you guys could help. Thanks.

Hmmm, would the community colleges offer the courses you need?

For example, San Diego Miramar’s articulation to UCSB from [Welcome to ASSIST](http://www.assist.org) :

Math 254 -> Math 4A
Physics 195 -> Physics 1 and 2

I would prefer to take the classes at a UC. Riverside is an option, but I think it has similar circumstances.

Contact the math and physics departments at UCSB and ask them.

Yeah that’s what I was thinking of doing. The only problem is that I will not be able to contact them until Monday, and that is when registration opens, so I have to hope there will still be space.
