Is it possible to get financial aid for summer classes I plan on taking at community college? How does this work?

To get financial aid at any school, you have to be a matriculated student at that school working toward a degree or certificate. If you are just signing up for some classes there but are not working toward a degree there, then you probably won’t be eligible for any aid. There are exceptions, such as If you are enrolled at another school that has some sort of agreement with the CC. (I don;t know exactly how that works, but have read of it somewhere). Of course, even then you would have to have unused federal aid available from the school year if they treat summer as part of the preceding year.

If you are already a student at the CC, then aid eligibility will depend on whether you have unused eligibility from the year if they treat summer as part of the preceding year, or you would be using part of the next year’s aid if they treat summer as part of the following year. There is no extra aid for summer. (there was summer pell for a couple of years, but that was cancelled some years ago).

At my daughters university, summer courses are full pay, not subsidized by the state & so are more expensive than courses taken during the school year.
I wouldnt be surprised if the community college is the same.
