Cal has this option on MyBerkeleyApp or whatever that let's you take some required courses over teh summer. Is a good idea to take these classes? Are they going to be super hard/useful since you're learning a semesters worth of material in a month? gpa kill? OR should i just enjoy my summer 8D?

What’s the rush? I would enjoy the summer, unless you’re majoring in a prereq intensive major, you should have plenty of time to take fun classes during your 4 years. I imagine that most of your summers after this one will be busy with work/internship/volunteer/research etc.

The summer classes are not necessarily harder content wise, you generally only take 1 or 2 classes and that generally takes up a great portion of your time. They don’t kill your GPA, the rest of the class has to contend with the same conditions, and alot of material is glossed over.

I took MCB 102 last summer; while the class was relatively easy, due to the professor’s teaching style, I definitely missed the summer and now I can’t wait till finals are over so I can get some type of break to travel

: O do they teach the material less thoroughly than a full semester course? or is it just basically the same >.>

It has been my limited experience, that summer classes don’t cover material to the same depth as full semester classes. The important parts are all covered, but the trivial matters (the one’s that you hate memorizing over the normal semester) are understandably left out.

Is architecture a prereq intensive major?

I love summer school. It’s certainly not GPA kill. I wouldn’t take important prereqs in summer school, but electives, unimportant prereqs, etc. make a lot of sense.
