Right now I'm a hs senior, planning on starting cc this summer. Does anyone have any idea when registration starts? I can only find the spring academic calender on my cc's site. Also, do I need to complete an R40 form, or just a normal application?

Just look around on your CC’s website. I’m pretty sure it’s just a normal app… Summer classes usually start in June, I believe, so you best apply soon!

Registration dates differ by cc. Students are also appointed registration times. Usually new students have last choice unless they’re in an honors program that allows them priority registration.

which CC are you applying too? tell me and i will probably be able to find the date. and it is a great idea to start in the summer. i did that and had the campus to myself. really helped me get a head start before the crazy fall semester rush.

Ideally Evergreen valley, but San Jose City and Mission College work too

You can apply to a CC whenever

@lawlking
oh, you mean you can register at the school whenever. that is true.
i guess he means register for summer classes?

btw it was front page news around here that the CCC’s will be turning students away. san francisco turned thousands away last year. and our school turned away students as well. ms. sun mentioned this in her blog also just yesterday (i think), and reminded kids to register early at the CCC of their choice. might be a good idea.

@Gawdzilla:
If you can, I suggest that you get to Santa Barbara City College and attend that school instead. It is a fantastic Community College, ranked number one in the whole CCC system. And I think they have a very high transfer rate to UCLA, and maybe even TAG for UCLA. It is worth going to a top CC, my CC was a real pain and I had a lot of trouble dealing with their messed of administration. You can register at Santa Barbara City College online, do all the orientations online, apply for financial aid online, get your financial aid award letter within about ten days, they are very fast and efficient. Then register for classes online, all before you have to head down there. Check out their website, the school is great! And it is a CCC.

you can even tell by their website how fantastic they are and they are ranked in the top ten CC in the nation. they also have great film programs, and journalism:

^^Ohhhhh. For some reason I was thinking he was asking when can he apply to a CC.

Do you think Evergreen will turn down students this year? It has the least amount of students of my local CC’s

May 7 (Monday)

Registration begins for new and returning students

May 14 (Monday)

Registration begins for high school seniors only

So for me is the date may 7 or may 14?

I think santa barbara city college is out of the question because I live in the bay area and I dont want to take all of my classes online

move to santa barbara dude! seriously, it is such a good school. they even offer four year degrees now. they have a journalism major, a film major, woot woot. and the people in the administration rock. haha.

anyway, if you register now you fall under the category of “New Students” for class sign up. and i have no idea whether of nor evergreen will reject kids this coming semester, but wherever you go, make sure to register EARLY and try to register for classes the first half hour that registration is available to you. so you get the courses you need.

one more thing, plan your two years carefully, make sure to use ASSIST.ORG and complete IGETC and all the prereqs listed at assist.org for the major at the school you want to attend. and be sure to apply to UC schools—they are much better than most CSU schools and have more financial aid. so they are cheaper if you qualify for aid the the CSU schools. just harder to get in. so get A levels in all your classes. easy to do, just don’t overload your units and do your homework. good luck.
