I am thinking about taking some courses this summer at a community college to get it out of the way, but I have a question. Does the grades of the courses taken at a community college affect your college GPA when transferred? I'm asking because I plan to take history and political science, which are easy courses and will boost my GPA. If they don't count, then I might just take them at my college during the fall semester instead. What would you do?

Are you planning on taking classes over the summer? What classes? Any internships?

No, your school will not see a grade for the courses you take at the CC, so it will not have any impact on your GPA. The school only get a transcript from you of credits to add toward however many you need to fulfill graduation requirements. If you want it to boost your GPA, then why do you take them in the summer at your school? I know there is a significant difference in the money, but any grades you get for classes taken at your school during any semester will affect you GPA.

I'm taking a few of the more basic English classes for my English major in summer '08, so that I can still complete my Poltical Science minor without having to take a course overload or stay in school an extra semester. I am hoping to get an internship in summer '09.

i am not sure how it's done at your school but in california, every college course you take counts. you must submit a transcript to you univ. about classes and grades you got at a cc to get credit. it will change your gpa but at univ level you have 3 different gpa's:
overall (including all cc and univ you attended)
univ gpa (only courses taken at the univ)
major gpa (upper div. courses youve taken)

Yeah, okay, I guess it varies from state to state. In MD, CC classes only translate into transferrable credits, not grades to effect the GPA. We also don't have 3 levels of GPA, only overall GPA and major GPA.
