Summer (community college) class?

I'm an engineering major and thinking of taking a summer class at a community college to start getting ahead on the humanities requirement. But I found out that the grade I get at the community college won't count towards my college GPA...so I'm wondering if this is a smart idea since when I start college I'll have fewer but harder courses so it'll be harder to maintain a higher gpa.
What do you think about this..? Should I wait to take a humanities class at Berkeley instead so I have more...balance?

if you have nothing else to do over the summer, go ahead and take it. extra units will not hurt you, and even though the grade points don’t transfer over, it may help you get ahead in some of the requirements. if you are worried about fluffing your schedule up with nice / gpa boosting classes, there are many out there that you can also utilize once you start taking engineering classes. fulfilling the humanities requirement beforehand will simply allow you more freedom in choosing these easier gpa humanities /language/whatever you want classes, which would not have to be restricted to the humanities& social science sheet that lists all compatible courses for engineering humanities.
