Summer Counselor Job = Community Service?

On the Rutgers app, it only asks for jobs during the school-year, so can I list my summer recreation counselor job as community service even though I got paid for it?

Mom here..I think what they are looking for in their question is time spent without the benefit of earning monies.Now...it may be construed that the summer rec job is part of a youth empowerment program for the city's youth whose families are on government assistance. If that is your case, then it may fall under the heading of community service, otherwise it should be under summer jobs held, IMHO. G'Luck!

That's thing thing though, there is no spot to put summer jobs... they only ask for jobs during the school-year. I want to include my summer counselor job somewhere on the app and I was wondering if I should just list it under community service.

It's not community service if you are paid. But is there a place for leadership skills etc? I think it might be better there.

There's extracurricular activities, community and volunteer service, and awards.

Isn't there a place for work experience/jobs?

Yea, but it specifcally states "Please list any year-round full-time employment or any employment undertaken during the school year."

My summer job wouldn't fit that description.

Any advice?

Many schools have an additional info section - if all else fails, you can put it there. The ECs section might also work.

its not an EC. The reason they ask about school-year employment is that kids who are holding down a 15 hr/wk job have less time available to devote to ECs. The adcoms are trying to build a picture in their mind of the applicant. If they don't see a lot of ECs but they see you were going to school and working, that explains it. During the summer you didn't have school most likely, so you had more free time for ECs.

So just leave it off completely?

Bump for my last question

Put it under EC or additional info.
Don't put it under community service: Since you got paid, it wasn't volunteer work.
Another option: E-mail or call Rutgers and ask where you should put your summer job.
