I am a Junior in high school and I want to take a summer course at my local community college so that I can take an AP class next year. I wanted to take Pre-Calc there so I can take AP Calc next year at my school in order to increase my chances of getting into my dream business school. Would this look good to college admissions officers or would it be something that a lot of kids do? Also, do you think its a good idea? I’m in all AP except for math so it’s kind of something that basically needs to happen lol.
Sure, that’s a good idea!
My daughter did that and it really helped! I’d say go for it!!
Yes, if you succeed in the courses then it will help your college application.
If you are in all AP except for math, think carefully about whether you want to add calculus to the mix. You might like one slower-paced class.
The other thing that you need to know is that if you take just one class for credit at the community college, for the rest of your life every time you apply to a degree program at an accredited college or university in the US, or for a job that asks for all of your college transcripts, you will have to request an official copy of this community college transcript. Right now that doesn’t seem like a big deal, but having had to track down ancient one-summer-course transcripts myself, I can tell you that keeping track of this stuff gets old pretty fast. If you have the option to take the class in a way that doesn’t earn college credit, I would recommend you do that.
