I was thinking about taking summer classes at Rutgers over the summer (since I'm from NJ and I'll be home over the summer) and I was wondering if it would transfer over to my Cornell transcript and be accepted as credit toward graduation. I want to cut back the amount of credits that I'll have to take sophomore year, since I'm already somewhere around 20-22 credits based on my planning. (I'm Pre-Med/Pre-Vet and considering a minor in International Trade & Development, just for some background information) Would Cornell take it? I've heard stories about people taking classes in other colleges if they didn't pass the one at Cornell, so I figured it might apply to me as well? Then again, these were alumni, so maybe this isn't a common practice anymore?

Just wondering if anyone knew the answer to this. Thanks.

Don’t know much about this, but I’d talk to the dean beforehand and make sure that, assuming your grades are good, you’ll be able to transfer your credits.

My understanding is that all courses (including Study Abroad & summer Courses) must be pre-approved in order to get credit for them. But the grades received at any school other than Cornell will not factor into your GPA. Only courses actually taken @ Cornell make up your GPA.

That is true for any transfer credit anywhere ever. The grades don’t transfer from one college to another.

There needs to be an equivalent course. For example, the math for engineers classes are not always transferable because they are specifically tailored for engineers and courses at other universities are not likely to cover everything Cornell wants engineers to know. I know you aren’t an engineer, that was just my experience where some of my credits could be transferred and some could not.

Either take something general where there would be an equivalent course, or contact your advising office.
