Which is better, going to a summer program for which you have to pay at a prestigious university or doing research at a regional university (UT Dallas in my case)? Bear in mind I'm a sophomore right now, so I can't spin this research into an entrant in Siemens/STS.

I plan on doing some sort of biology related major in college, if it makes a difference.

I would say you should do the research gig at UT Dallas. Summer school is basically a waste of money, and not worth it unless you're taking college credit classes. Unless it's an internship at a prestigious university, go with the one at UTD.

They're worth about the same. An internship shows your interests and passions, (and may be a good source of inspiration for your Pulitzer-winning essay and glowing recommendation), and a college credit courses show that you can handle the academic rigors of college.

I would go with the internship only because it's more interesting than a college credit course, although if you want, you can go with the college credit courses. It really helps if it's from like, Harvard. But so do internships. It's a matter of preference.
