Does anyone have any experience with a tour operator that they have used before for their teen to tour Europe? Either with a few cities or focusing on one area in particular? I was looking at Overland but they don't seem to have a tour in Italy which is where S would like to go. Originally we were going to plan a trip to Europe with him, but for the same money, he could see more places or stay longer if we booked a tour and he went with a group.

S is finishing 10th grade. He's 16. Never been to Europe before; speaks some Spanish.

I know this doesn’t directly answer your question, but if I was in this situation and wanted my kid to see Europe, especially Italy, I’d book a Rick Steves family tour. And go with him, they wouldn’t let him go on his own. You’re guaranteed to have some other kids there.

Of course, that could be costly for everyone to go, but so much fun and they do all the planning and the work to optimize your experience. Take you to the best of everything, figure out the exact right times to go, get the best local guides. But while it’s cheap for one, multiplied by 3 or more…well, costly. Great family vacation, though.

My daughter went on an EF tour of England and France in HS. She went with a group from her school but I think they have tours for individuals also. The trip was so good that she considered doing an EF College tour this summer.

I went on a People to People student trip last summer with 44 other hs students from my area. there are certainly trips available that include Italy. You would have to pursue it for next summer, though. I had an absolutely incredible time seeing Europe and I took a lot away from the experience. definitely recommended!
