Summer/Fall 2015 Transfer Thread

@Kyotoraz Okay, do let us know about what you find out! Do you think there will be spots left in COLA?

@pnkvilas Honestly I don’t think students going for CNS or COLA shouldn’t have much of a problem compared to others wanting to go into Cockrell and Mccombs. It all comes down to space.

@stevenjp Thanks for the advises, I’ll def try!!

@MyUTAustin Still have to wait. Since, I’m trying for PetE, I might go to TAMU, then try for Cockrell for Fall 2016

@Kyotoraz I think it’s just for Cockrell, but still not sure because they said you’ll not be a competitive applicant

@Toastyful Wo wo wo, I hope not. Due to my plan, I’ll have 60 credits by the end of Fall 2015, and somewhere near

If I can get in to TAMU PetE, do you think it would be easy to transfer to PetE Cockrell semester later??

@Yoohooos If you get into TAMU PetE, it might be a good idea to take it. Keep in mind though, you might be taking either upper level or more difficult courses if you are at a community college right now, which may reduce your GPA a bit… But, even then if you don’t get in, you’re still in a solid PetE program. Unless your goal is to get into UT regardless of major, I would aim for TAMU and transfer, if you get in you get in, if you don’t, you still have an incredible degree from a top PetE program.

@ravishingrick I’m currently at The State University of New York at Buffalo, it’s the best Public Engineering Program in NY. Right now I’m double major in Civil Engineering, and Computer Science, so that’s the reason I’m trying to go for UT Austin, so if possible I’ll try to double major for CS at UT CNS. Thanks for advises, also would it be easier to transfer from TAMU PetE to UT PetE? Well, I’m pretty confident of getting into PetE TAMU sine I talked to the adviser after I got info from UT.

Second year TAMU transfer applicant here, applying to Moody for Public relations with a 3.93 GPA

  • I looked through last year's threads and it seems the first wave of applicants accepted were 3.8 GPA's and up (except for Engineering I believe) first acceptance (that I saw) went out April 13 last year!

Good luck to everyone, I believe we should be finding out very soon!

@Yoohooos If what you mean is if transferring from TAMU would be easier than any other institution just because it’s TAMU, probably not… But, if by going to TAMU and you living here for one year, making you an in-state applicant, that will definitely change things seeing as UT only has a small percentage of out of state applicants.

@ravishingrick even though it’s PetE TAMU… :’( So, even transfer they still give priority to in state?

@Yoohooos Both are the top two programs in the nation, and as far as priority honestly I’m not sure. What I do know is even transfers have very low percentages. I’m not sure if that’s due to priority, but I’d call them to ask that. That can assist you in making your decision.

@ravishingrick Probably do it by tmr.

I have another question, let say 3.90 with 60 credits, and 3.96 with 40 credits, which has more chance?

@Yoohooos dont think any of us can answer that, you’d have to call admissions and ask whether sophomores or juniors are preferred. I’d guess juniors, but I don’t work at UT hence you’d have to call them

Those GPAs are virtually identical so that won’t really be a factor, it just depends on whether or not the credit standing makes a difference

@stevenjp Thanks a lot!!

Hi everyone! I’ve been stalking this thread for weeks and finally decided to reply and give my stats for the list!

I’m a freshman currently on leave from Southern Methodist University.
SMU GPA: 3.742 (16 hrs)
Dual Credit GPA: 4.0 (18 hrs)
Transfer GPA according to UT financial aid tab: 3.89 (something like 43 hrs - I had a 18 hours from ap tests listed on my smu transcript that didn’t calculate into my smu gpa)
1st choice major/school: business/mccombs
2nd choice major school: economics/COLA

Good extra curricular involvement last semester at SMU including three honors programs. Strong Essays. 2 letters of rec from high school teacher.

Also, I was accepted to McCombs out of high school and have a very strong high school resume.

The wait is definitely getting the best of me! Really hope we start hearing back sometime this week! Wishing the best to all of y’all!

Anyone have a number I can call for transfer admissions information besides the main admission line?

Applied for Aerospace Engineering as 1st choice and Mechanical as second
GPA 4.0 (in state transfer from cc)
Some volunteer Activities
Tutor (CRLA Level 1 Certificate)
Essays descent
Good Resume
Add me to the list too

So I just got off the phone with admissions at 10:07am CA time, 12:07 probably most of your time… and the guy told me that decisions would be made May 1 for out of state transfers… fkjhsadlfkjhsalfkjsalkdfj.

@cagirl24 I’m sorry to hear that! I’m applying to Moody as well but I’m instate. Did they say anything about in state transfers? Thanks!

@cagirl24 Uggggh, really? That sucks! But then again they sometimes say all admissions won’t be out until then… It’s a different story every time. I guess all we can do is wait.

Just curious, are they working in the same office? I mean, you call the same number , different person pick up the phone, different answer you get…

I just got off the phone with admissions with sort of good news I guess you could say for students seeking a spot in CNS and COLA(that don’t have their 30
hours complete). I was told that there will be space and to not worry about the whole competing with the people who already have their 30 hours. If you’re a solid applicant YOU ARE STILL COMPETITIVE. As for the many of you who already have the 30 hour requirement, I did get told the first decisions will be early May.
