First, getting between a 3.5 to 4 should be a given when applying to UT. Basing admissions solely on GPA says a lot about the college. It says that they dont care about the overall person and they want a nerd instead of a well rounded human being. Hopefully you understand that mememaster.
Are you okay? You seem sort of jealous at the fact that someone was admitted. I’m sorry if you didn’t get the same response but at least have some class and give credit where its due.
Congrats, @cubedreams!! We DO NOT need people like you here, @HHxGGx.
Congrats @cubedreams ! Hopefully we all hear the same!
Haha. Well…this WAS a peaceful, supportive outlet for me while I waited for my result, but I think I’ll stay away until things calm down a little. Good luck everyone, I’ll post when I get an acceptance or rejection.
Maybe HHxGGx’s superiority complex bled into his essays and they’ll be able to see he’s not a well rounded candidate when they read it
^Jeez. I surely don’t see how anyone with a 4.0 with 30+ hours should get scrutinized…
but anyways, thought I’d post my complete stats for someone to update the list.
- Transferring from Texas A&M with some credits from Community College (Blinn)
- Current cumulative GPA: 3.93
- Applied with 45 hours
- 1st choice: Pre-public relations
- 2nd choice: Psychology
- Essays were.. good, I think?
- 4 recommendations from bosses/professors
- Extensive volunteer hours
- Close to no extracurricular activities
- Extensive work experience
@HHxGGx and to everyone else in the thread, I’m just gonna be blunt. As an undergrad, esp in the early years, the ONLY thing colleges care about is your GPA. And that’s because you have no other accomplishments they care about. GPA is the only thing on the list of credentials you submit that proves work. It shows you not only understand the material you take, but you attend class, do your homework, for an entire year. That is not easy in anyway. Essays, especially, I’m almost sure they dont care about. Who’s to say its “good” or “bad”? Extracurricular, unless you’ve truly accomplished something amazing that can CONTRIBUTE to UT, again, it really means nothing. So no, its not about being a “nerd” its about showing UT you can put your actions up to your words. By applying, you’re saying you deserve a spot at UT, and gpa is the only thing on that list that proves it.
•The University of Texas at Dallas
•3.40
•Cockrell School of Engineering
•1st and 2nd choice majors: Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering
•Well Done essays
•1 rec letter written by the managing partner of a Chamber of Commerce
•Worked in UT Molecular Science Labs, Chamber of Commerce, restaurant waiter for many years, Band throughout high school.
I wanted to know if I should consider changing my major to Economics for my 2nd preference and if I should change my 1st preference to Civil or leave it as Mechanical. I have all the required courses for the engineering majors.
I just want to get into UT and then try transferring into cockrell later on. Is that easier to do or should I stick with the majors I’ve already picked? Any advice would be great!
@TransferUTA I don’t think you have any chance of getting into cockrell ,your GPA is far too low compared everyone else , even with your very nice extracurricular, it’s still too low , with that being said don’t lose hope , I’d recommend applying for an easy COLA major and then internal transferring as a for Mech E you need a 3.5 for internal transfer and that is a very reachable , sorry to disappoint and Good Luck
-Transfer from University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign(15 credits), 58 credits from Marquette University)
-Current GPA 3.73. (I may get 3.6 for this semester at U OF I)
-1st choice: McCombs
-2ed choice: Unspecific
-Essays: I think they are okay, not outstanding.
-Recommandation: none (Two of my friends who got into UT last semester told me they did not submit Rec)
-Some extracurricular activities
I just had a conversation with the transfer counselor. She told me they will give me the decision after I submit my current semester transcript because I am currently taking Cal II.
What do you guys think about my chance? After I saw the posts here, I feel I do not have any hope. BTW, I am an international students which makes this harder…
Hi @slzSLZ as far as McCombs… your GPA is a little under below average for their past acceptances. Last year, the average for international applicants was 3.84 according to their website. With that being said, I do not think it is impossible… but I would really recommend that you try and raise your GPA this semester if possible. Good luck!
Thank you for you advise. @ecollin I saw a post which said you got into McCombs? Thats awesome. Do you think my Cal 2 issue will affect my chance? My Cal 2 grade is kind of low right now. Appreciated your reply .
So… Aside from all of today’s unnecessary drama, do you think there is any chance of us finding out tomorrow (May 1st)? #FingersCrossed

@slzSLZ I did not yet accepted yet. Unfortunately, I am still waiting! Another person in this thread did get accepted about 2 weeks ago, but that is so far the only one I have heard getting an acceptance to McCombs this year. There are a few of us waiting. I have all indicators completed, as well as 49 credit hours, so hopefully I will hear something soon! I am actually not 100 % on how much they weight the different indicator courses. But I do not think you can transfer anything lower than a C.
@ecollin Thank you very much. Your reply is very helpful to me. Hopefully, you can hear them back tomorrow! Do you have a second choice? Econ? What is the chance to internal transfer from Econ to McCombs? Thanks
@slzSLZ I am not sure about the internal transfers. I do not have a second choice at UT. If I do not get accepted into McCombs I will attend Mays Business School at A&M. I got my acceptance from there a while back. Really want to go to McCombs though so I am keeping my fingers crossed!
So far after reading to now, little discouraged about getting in. I applied to CNS for CS and I feel like my gpa sucks compared to those that got into it. All my math and sciences are perfect but my language arts grades destroyed me. congrats to you guys who’ve gotten in though.
This wait is killing me now
@HHxGGx That’s fine if you think my stats are mediocre, I was just posting to let people know that they are starting to admit people to the CNS. I honestly could care less if you think I am lying. What do I have to gain by lying?
