Summer/Fall 2015 Transfer Thread

Why are people with 4.0s asking if they could get in? You literally could not have performed any better. You have a perfect GPA. Unless you’re applying to Cockrell or McCombs where there are a lot of 4.0 applicants, there is literally no reason why you shouldn’t get in. I’m referring to people who are asking about other majors/colleges. Not trying to be rude, but you should be fine.

Chance me please!

cola undeclared maybe , if you get a 3.8 then average should be a 3.6 so advertising also could be a possibility but unsure

@MyLonghorn‌ My bad, just edited it. Advertising first choice, COLA undeclared second choice

@texaslivin‌ its fine i changed mine after i noticed you edited

Can anyone please chance me? I’ve already been rejected by UIUC and accepted to OSU. I’m out of state with a 3.96 with 48 credits and I’ve completed Calc I and II with A’s. Calc III, Engineering Physics I and Chem I are in progress

@stevenjp which major?

@cdctransfer honestly I would think your chances are pretty high! The GPA could be higher, but it’s solid, and with the actual short film work, and being a TX resident, I’d say it’s a great shot.

I’m mostly worried about being out of state and not having enough film-related ECs

I haven’t been able to find anything on the UT website about which credits will transfer. The only thing I’ve seen is for Texas community colleges, so doesn’t apply to me transferring from a 4 year university. Really hoping at least 3/4 of my credits would transfer…but I guess I’ll deal with it if they don’t.

Are you applying to any other film schools? I’ll admit I haven’t really put much thought into which schools I’m applying to (didn’t really have a lot of time to do heavy research before I had to start applying) so I’ve been going off of the Hollywood Reporter’s rankings list. I’m applying to FSU, UT, Chapman, and Loyola. I think my preferences right now are UT or Loyola.

Do you know specs. about the program/coursework itself? I’m really looking for a program that is heavily based in technical knowledge but still allows for artistic experimentation. I know this sounds horrible as someone trying to get into film programs, but the “story” (here I mean the words spoken) doesn’t interest me a whole lot. My interest in film/tv stems entirely from an affinity for visual information on screen. Also, I don’t really want to work on indies or anything, my career goal is to work on Hollywood scale productions for studios as a camera operator/ lighting designer.

Like I said, I have a lot of research left to do. I haven’t emailed/called/spoken with anyone from the program yet. Basically my entire reason for transferring is that my old school didn’t have sufficient equipment/facilities/and instructors, and I’m looking to be trained in top-of-the-line equipment.

Here’s another chance question.
Does anyone know if it “helps” you if only one of your parents went to college?
My dad has a BA but my mom didn’t go to college.
It’s not like I’m a 1st gen student, but I kind of technically am on the matrilineal side. My mom’s parents didn’t go to college, her sister did, but my mother herself did not.

not really much help unless you address it in your essays

@MyLonghorn I basically figured as much, I’ve just always wondered about that. I didn’t address it in the application in any way. My mom basically didn’t go to college because she didn’t want to, it wasn’t for any socio-economic reasons.

@camgard‌ I would kill to go to NYU. That’s been my dream for so long. Financially, it just doesn’t make sense. UT will only cost me 10K a year because I live in Texas and it is one of the best programs in the country. It’s all or nothing for me!

UT is a heavy research based institution hence they tout the name “Public Ivy.” I have heard a lot of courses are media studies related but there is a bunch of hands on work that you can do! I have a couple friends in Texas Student Television which is a full fledged studio that broadcasts programs weekly. A great way to get that technical experience you’re looking for!

@cdctransfer Yes, I am in love with their Texas Student Television program and would love to be a part of it. My old school had a TV club, I went to two meetings, realized it was a joke, and never went again :confused:

If you find out any more information/want to discuss anything else you should message me or we could try to start a thread just for Moody/RTF. Also, you definitely have to notify me when you get an acceptance letter.

Does anyone know when fall transfer admission notifications typically begin to be released?

From the website:
Most transfer applicants to the summer/fall semester are notified of their admission decision by June 15 although some decisions may be made earlier.

yikes that is far away.

@stevenjp‌ 3.96 rejected from UIUC??? You are kidding right??

@MyLonghorn Civil Engineering
@Yoohooos‌ unfortunately not. I had all the prereqs for sophomore transfer too. Apparently they rarely take anyone but juniors into engineering or Physics, so it was probably about that coupled with the fact that I’m out of state

@camgard‌ Last year, RTF decisions began to come out in mid April. I think the May to June timeline are more for Engineering/Business. We could begin to see decisions in the next 5 - 6 weeks, but hey what do I know haha.
