Summer Financial Aid?

Do you receive an estimate of the summer financial aid before or after you enroll in the courses? I'm trying to take two courses with housing, which is almost $5,000 without financial aid. I'm very curious on the financial aid because if I don't get enough, I likely won't go and then I'll lose the $100 non-refundable deposit. If it makes a difference, I'm a Chancellor's scholar and Leadership finalist with an 8000 EFC for my 2009-2010 FAFSA.

I really need some insight on this because classes are filling up quickly and I have to waitlist on some classes as quickly as possible. It makes me wonder whether commuting to UCI for the same classes would be the more efficient option.

So far, I've completed the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 FAFSA. I haven't sent in the summer FA application yet, but I'm fax-ing the document today.

I sent them my 9-10 FAFSA and Summer aid application in early April and they still haven’t got back yet, so don’t expect them to get back to you quickly, because they’re pretty busy with Freshman and continuing students aid.

What they said is they get grants for the tuition and loans for the housing, so I don’t know how much you’d get. But I would get your application in quickly, and call FA office to make sure they have everything.

Okay, thanks for the help! It just seems a bit premature to register for $5,000 and not know the financial aid. I signed up for Math 53 and 54 right now and just faxed the FA document. I’m sure it’ll all work out in the end anyways and I always end up worrying too much. I haven’t passed any deadlines yet and I don’t think Berkeley does it on a first come/first serve basis so I might be lucky.

Yeah I’ve worried so much this past year that if I wasn’t so naturally calm (when I’m not worrying) I would have had a heart attack.

I’m not sure about summer, but typically it is not first come/first serve. It doesn’t seem like Berkeley is suffering economically as much as other publics as well.

Good luck.

Yeah, you too. I’ve had so much trouble with college stuff lately since I’ve been focusing on all my AP tests. Only two more and I’m finally done with them. Thanks a lot; I really appreciate the help. Oh, and good luck on your Physics 7B and English!
