Summer Housing etc

When I signed up for housing for this summer I was not given the option for private/single housing. I rather assumed it was available. It is isn't it? How do I sign up for it?

And can anyone tell me about the WINS program (women in natural science)?
How is the housing? what is the real benefit? is there any?

I initially applied to Plan II, wanting to study both sciences (engineering) and literature. But I was denied and admitted to natural sciences for the summer (with WINS option). I'm not too happy with this because I really want to study literature and a science (not necessarily engineering). But since as far as I know you can't double major across schools (please tell me if I can!) my current option is either to go with natural science or switch to liberal arts. I rather want to switch to liberal arts to double major lit with psych/or/philosphy, but my parents are pushing natural sciences (better job options). I was looking for some input on this decision, but mostly, if it would be possible for me to chance department at the end of the summer, or even to reapply to plan 2, would I get in? do I have other options I've overlooked?

thanks in advance,

I think anyone who tries to answer your questions would only be guessing and that wouldn't be good for you. So, first off, I would call the advisers at the Plan II office and see what they suggest. You might also want to check into Liberal Arts Honors.

I think that it's harder to get accepted into the sciences than into liberal arts, so you don't want to switch departments until you know it's the right choice for you. Take some classes at UT and see what appeals to you. You can take philosophy and psychology, but you may find that you love the sciences, astronomy, or even engineering. UT has over 132 departments, so give yourself a chance to explore what it has to offer.

Regarding summer housing, I don't think UT offers single rooms on campus except for Resident Assistants, but call/email the Division of Housing to make sure. Off-campus housing is easier to find in the summer and you should be able to find something for a single.
