Hi everyone,

Apologies if this has been asked already. I'm going to be taking a class during Harvard's Summer Session (7 weeks) and I was wondering if there was any website, etc. where I could find people sub-letting/looking for roommates for the summer? Cost-wise, how would this compare to the price charged by the housing office? (room&board $4590) Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!!

EDIT: I did look at huhousing.harvard.edu, but wasn't sure where the sub-lets would be listed/how best to utilize the site...

Check out craigslist; I would assume (and from 5 seconds of searching that you could get a place from about 1500$ for the 7 weeks. Adding food, I would guess maybe 2 000$ total.

I have never lived in the US though so not entirely sure about these figures. From my experience though (in the UK), you will have 2 problems:

1) Your age - I assume that you are 19ish? Many will be reluctant to rent to young people (they assume we will break everything and eat the walls…)
2) You are looking short term. Most people prefer to rent for 6 months +.

However, if you can get a deal it can be a lot cheaper.

You may miss out on some of the community that comes from the summer school (not living with everyone else.) But I have no idea how it is run so maybe this is not important.

Hope this helped.
