I was wondering if anyone had any experience with summer housing and it doesn't have to be on campus necessarily. My son who is a first year undergraduate was offered a summer job doing research for this summer. It is a great opportunity but we live approximately 75 miles south of UofC. He could commute everyday on the metra but it would be great if he could find something on campus or close by for the summer. When I looked at summer housing prices on the website it said between housing and dining the cost would be over $500 per week which is way too steep for us. Plus I don't even know if they offer housing for students who aren't taking classes but more or less a paid internship. Can anyone point us in a direction?

Sublet an apartment. Do NOT use Chicago residence halls during summer. It’s such a ripoff. Last summer, I subletted a 3-story townhouse in a shady part of Hyde Park for $250/month. This year, I’m being a bit smarter and got a pretty nice place on 55th/Blackstone for $450/month. Summer housing in HP doesn’t have to be terribly expensive, and a lot of students get desperate to find a subletter near the end of the school year. I’ve heard of people finding apartments for as low as $100-200/month.

Thanks so much!
