Summer Internship Advice

Hi Parents,

I applied to several summer internships in the DC area. I am fortunate to hear back that I was accepted to intern as a legislative assistance position for a famous House Representative. However, they want a response as soon as possible (probably by the end of this Friday), and I have yet to hear from other places. In fact, those places won't make their decisions until mid-April. Many of my friends have told me to wait because congressional internships tend to be a lot of bull work such as answering calls and mailing letters. Nothing totally productive. I am waiting on the U.S. Department of Labor, Leadership Conference for Civil Rights/LCCR Education Fund, and Institute for Women's Policy Research. I don't want to rush my decision nor do I want to lose the spot if I don't get into the other places.

What should I tell the congressional people?

Hi tennis,

A few students did summer internships at Dartmouth through their Rockefeller Center of Public Policy including some for the house of Representatives. In the link are internship reports, which can hopefully give you a little insight on what they had to do.

hope this helps

Thanks a lot. I read a few negative reviews about congressional internships. I hope I get into the other places.
