summer internship with a not-so-great GPA

I just finished my first semester of college with a GPA very slightly above a 3.0. After thorough research, I figured out that a 3.0 is the cutoff GPA for most internships (in biology). However, do I have any hope of landing an internship as maybe a research assistant with such a low GPA for this summer?

Yes, because you are above the cut-off. However, the fact that you are a freshman may limit you. Contact professors at your school to see if they have suggestions.

TP has it right. As a frosh, you’re at the bottom of the food chain, ahead of only ambitious high school students…and in this market, you may be competing with some recent grads as well, though I would think Bio is a better degree than most in that regard.
