Is it worth putting a summer internship doing CAD work at an architecture firm if I’m applying to colleges in engineering?
Yes.
Colleges don’t expect all your ECs to be related to your intended major.
How is the ability to do CAD – being able to use complex systems, understanding spatial relationships and the need for precision – a bad thing for any college application, much less engineering?
Idk I was just thinking it might not be a good enough thing to out for schools like Michigan and UVA engineering
Why ask this? Do you think your summer internship will detract from your application?
Because it’s an architecture internship which is not related to a majority of the engineering majors
No question. Architecture and engineering are oft related and the experience is valuable. CAD is used in some aspect in nearly all engineering fields, whether it be biomedical or mechanical. If you have a CAD-related license, even more so.
UVA and UMich accept kids into their COE programs with no experience whatsoever, you know. It’s *college.
