how many of you (incoming freshman) will be getting an internship this summer. ( i mean internship, not working at a restaurant)
is it recommended for me to get an internship this summer that really has little to do with my major?

It realllly doesn't matter. You'll have another 3 summers to prove yourself.

You should take advantage of the summer to relax before college. Count yourself lucky to find any paying job.

Most people I know did not do an internship before freshman year. Most people take a regular summer job to earn cash for college.

I know a lot of people who don't get "real" internships after their freshman year either. Its hard at this point because most people don't know what area they want to specialize in or might change their mind later.

I mean it doesn't hurt to have work experience, but you don't have to work in a lab/at a desk for 40 hours a week quite yet. Enjoying your summer is the most important thing.

A lot of people from Cornell, do get summer internships after their freshman year. I would recommend for the summer preceding your freshman year to relax and enjoy yourself. You'll need all your motivation and energy for Cornell. Its hard.

thanks everyone for the reply
and just to clarify, i was offered a pretty good position at a hotel in another country but i'm going into CAS as a potential econ student
and i won't get paid

It doesn't sound very financially viable if you're going to be living away from home without getting paid. And this is like THE time to relax before college.
