Summer internship?

Hi,
I have been looking everywhere for an internship relating to research, medicine/health, or journalism in the Chicago area. I know it might be late, but does anyone know of any still available?? I am currently a high school sophomore. Thanks!

Oy, hon. You’re getting into the game really really late; college students have been at this process since January. You’re not going to get a paid internship this summer, so focus on unpaid volunteer work. My recommendation would be to try one of two things:

Call up a small local paper (Chicago Tribune will not happen for a college sophomore, let alone a HS one) and see if they’d like an extra pair of hands, working for free. You can also call up some professors at a local university doing research in an area that interests you, or call up some local hospitals. Small, non-famous places will be your best bets. You’re not going to get anything really substantial/paid, but you might be able to get your foot in the door by doing busy work for them.

Just get a regular job. You’re probably 16, so that makes you eligible to work just about anywhere. Honestly, having real work experience on your resume (even if it’s just scooping ice cream) will help immeasurably with the internship process later on.
